Ourston Roundabout Engineering, Inc. is a corporation devoted exclusively to the research, policy, planning, education and design of modern roundabouts.  We operate throughout North America and continue to be the most experienced roundabout planning and design team. Leif Ourston pioneered roundabouts in America leaving green footprints since 1990 when the first modern roundabout was placed in Summerlin, Las Vegas.  With a staff of nine in the U.S. and four in Canada we reduce carbon footprints from infrastructure with safe, high-capacity roundabouts in demanding locations.  We assure agencies of the correct site selection and design quality with the highest degree of skill and professionalism, applying science and deep experience with corporate and personal committment to our valued clients.  Ourston is leading the Roundabout Revolution in the U.S. with several design accomplishments:

• The first two modern roundabouts (Las Vegas, Nevada, 1990).
• Maryland's first roundabouts (Lisbon and Gaithersburg, 1993).
• The first three roundabout interchanges (Vail and Avon, Colorado, 1995 and 1997).
• America's first string of roundabouts to eliminate congestion (Avon, Colorado, 1997).

We helped the states of California, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Wisconsin and Arizona begin their roundabout programs. We have researched and published articles on policy, education, design standards and rehabilitating failed designs.  Our vast library of national and international references underpins our evidence-based empirical approach to the broad services we provide.  We have led the education and acceptance scene producing four roundabout videos, wrote the first U.S. design manual Roundabout Design Guidelines and were panel reviewers of both the 2000 FHWA Roundabout Informational Guide and the upcoming 2010 FHWA Roundabout publication.
